![]() I grew up in Cape Town, South Africa in a wonderful family that enjoyed having fun. My father was a surfer who loved rugby, and my mother was a ballerina who loved music! Despite those differences between them, they were often out on dates, and it was evident to me that there was love at the core of our family! I grew up being part of different churches, though I was most influenced by the Newfrontiers church (Jubilee Church) we were part of from the time I was 16. I developed a love of music at a very young age and begged my mom to play piano which started with lessons when I was 9 years old. I began playing French Horn at school in my adolescent years, and it soon became my major instrument. I loved playing in ensembles and playing with other musicians. My high school years were filled with many rehearsals, concerts and fun times spent with different ensembles. The last four years I lived in Cape Town were spent largely at the University of Cape Town, where I majored in orchestral studies and played in local orchestras. I came to the States in 1994, and completed graduate studies at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, MD, which is where I met Jonathan. It was an adventure to arrive in the country with no money or foreseeable way of earning money, but God provided in amazing ways for me to be in school! For example, God told someone (I still don’t know who) that I needed money, as well as the exact amount I needed to start college, and I was given $2000 on the day of the deadline! I had fantastic experiences playing in different orchestras, which became a means of financial support to me. Not only did I know God’s provision practically, but felt God’s care tangibly through the lifelong friendships he gave me. In 1998, Jonathan and I started dating, and I moved to be with him in England, where I worked different jobs and was part of a Newfrontiers church (Woodside) in Bedford. We became well acquainted with both American and British Embassies, and spent over half the time we dated on different continents (our phone bills were high!), trying to figure out how to be where we wanted to be! Jonathan proposed to me a year later on Valentines’ Day, and we were married in Stellenbosch winelands, South Africa in August 1999. During our first year of marriage we lived in Bedford while Jonathan finished up training. We felt a strong pull to be part of Newfrontiers in the States, and through an unusual set of circumstances and conversations with the leader of the church, became part of Jubilee Church, St Louis. Our two beautiful children, Caleb and Sophia, were born during our time there. Soon after Sophia’s birth we re-located to Atlanta, GA to be part of a Newfrontiers church plant, which is where we have been ever since. We have loved being part of this church, which has challenged us in many ways, and pushed us closer to promises that God has given us.
